When I first take the elevator, am I going up or down? I'm trying to leave the silo and I know I have to go down to get to the surface but I'm going in circles.

Also, the first time Cody tapped into the controls a timer started and he told me to get out and men started shooting at me from around every corner. The second time I played through that, there was no timer, no message from Cody, and no gunmen.... although my mission says "get out of the silo before detonation". What happened?

I have to do it over, don't I?

Ok I see what I did wrong... I went the wrong way when I left the control room. No "cut scene" happened. CRAP. But I still want to know if the initial elevator ride is up or down. It's... down, right?

I believe you are talking about Silo 3 (forgive me, it has been awhile since i have played). You will actually escape by going up once the timer starts. You need to reach the top of the silo and grab onto the rope that is hanging in the center. If the time runs out, the game will end cause the silo will blow. The elevator ride is up, (i believe ) and then you take the stairs up to the top. Let me know if it works out for you.
