In some of the maps, the complexity does increase. Supply Lines become longer, Naval Tactics come into question more, Recon for bad terrain gains even more importance and sometimes hit and run is in order on the less balanced maps.
However, it is unfortunate that almost all the maps have a 99 turn limit and the only victory condition is winner take all. |
Maybe some of the people here could think up alternate win ideas for maps. I mean, the game wouldn't recognize it, but it would be a different style of play and would add even more variety to DS7. For example, you would have Map Q: o1: Take the eastern city in the southeast
o2: Capture 2 refineries. o3: Hold the northwestern factory for 9 turns
And if you completed all the objectives, you would win. Not technically win, but you would know you had beaten the objectives. I would come up with some real ones, but they would probably be too hard or too easy.

I found the pic on some random military (.gov) site the crest is that of the 6/27th Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Sill Oklahoma to which I belonged to for three years! '94-'97[/quote]
I was in 3/27th when they created the unit at Ft. Bragg, so i trained at Sill for the job (naturally). I visited a site recently that said my old unit went to HIMARS which looks almost like a SMERCH technology to me....

I know it's been a while since this thread has been touched, but I thought of one other change a later version could make to improve the replayability of the game, and its variety.
Being able to construct a military inventory a la carte. This would be useful for constructing scenarios with the militaries of other less developed nations who often possess a mixture of equipment from different nations. Like you could create a Desert Storm scenario by constructing Iraq using a selection of previous generation armoured vehicles, with a few French jets and choppers thrown in, or the Indians could be created from a composite of older British tanks (like the Chieftain, and maybe even the Challenger 1) and aircraft and other vehicles from places like China.
Also to make it look more official you could have a selection of different national flags and add them to the listing of units, creating an official master list. With this mode you could also perhaps add units not normally available in the game since they come from largely non-combative nations (such as Italian armor and Swedish jet units). Being able to mix-and-match your own military could be really fun. One could even create the Munchkin army (German Armor, U.S. Air, Naval, and specialist units like the ATACMS, and maybe the Russian BTR-T). Heck, if you felt like it you could even construct the worst military imaginable (Type 69 MBTs, J-8 Finback fighters, Qiang-5 Attack Jets, M109 SPHs, you name it), just to see if you could win against... well, anyone.

Lol, playing a little too much WINSPMBT have we?
However, it is a good idea which I would like to see. It would allow for some of the smaller nations to be in real world maps. I mean, is it just me or does it look very wrong to play a map of Korea and none of the combatants are Korean.
