need help saving cheats to a saved map ?

I played first wave map and used the cheat for all the units and had them untill I saved the game and attempted to buy units but could not purchase the cheated units. I saved the game backed out to the start menu and then used the cheat again but still when I loaded the saved game I could not buy the cheated units.

My question is Can I only use the cheat able units if I dont save the game and play untill the end turn.
