There are several unlockable characters that I'd really like to use, but I bought the game solely to play with my wife in 2-player. Is there any way to unlock these characters, like with a code or something, without logging all those hours in 1-player?

Dale,

No codes have been released to date. I'll check with the developers to see if they have any codes they would like to share with us. You may also want to check with sites like gamers.com, gamefaqs.com etc etc, but to the best of my knowledge no codes for EMEM have been found so far.
